Thanks to the generosity of Team Abana’s amazing sponsors and donors, Chance for Childhood have been able to bring hope and a brighter future to many deaf children in Northern Rwanda.
Chance for Childhood is an award-winning charity working in Africa to support the most vulnerable children, such as street children, children with disabilities, children affected by conflict and kids behind bars. These children are often invisible members of their communities, unable to go to school, excluded from society and living in abject poverty. They are sadly forced to grow up much too quickly. Our vision is of a world where no child is forgotten!
Thanks to the generosity of Team Abana’s amazing sponsors and donors, Chance for Childhood have been able to bring hope and a brighter future to many deaf children in Northern Rwanda.
With the money raised from Team Abana’s first cross country challenge, around US$110,000 has was used towards the building of a brand new school for deaf children in Nyabihu, Rwanda. The new school, opened in November 2018,
gives 140 deaf children the chance to access an education, learn sign language
and have brighter prospects for the future. Building it would never have been possible without the incredible support of Team Abana and their generous donors. The
launch of the first Challenge Fund aims
to generate forward-thinking, innovative ways to tackle historic problems and
test the demand and appetite amongst young entrepreneurs in Rwanda and Uganda
for receiving start-up grants or repayable loans to further their
community-based enterprises. Five organisations were awarded a combination of
repayable and non-repayable investments as part of the Inclusion Challenge
(reducing stigma towards children with disabilities) and the Gender and Justice
Challenge (protecting girls caught up in the criminal justice system).
